PROCEDURE
FOR: VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
The Ben Avery Shooting Facility
offers several programs for volunteer participation.
LINE SAFETY OFFICER PROGRAM
 | Volunteer
Line Safety Officers (LSOs) provide valuable safety and customer service at
the Facility’s Main Range. |
FACILITY HOST PROGRAM
 | Facility
Hosts provide maintenance, custodial, and grounds services. Each Host is
assigned a specific area of responsibility. |
FACILITY VOLUNTEER
 | Persons
not interested in either of these two programs may volunteer for other
duties around the Facility. Most of these are custodial or grounds services
in nature. Other type of volunteers such as educational instructors are also
used. |
RESERVE GAME RANGERS
 | The
Facility has a Reserve Game Ranger program. Applicants must be AZPOST
Certified Peace Officers. |
ELGIBILITY:
 | Applicants
must be able to perform light physical labor. |
 | Applicants
must not be “prohibited possessors” nor have any “domestic violence”
issues both as specified in Arizona State Law. |
 | Applicants
for the LSO program must complete six hours of classroom training and eight
hours of “On the job training” under the supervision of a Rangemaster. |
 | Applicants
for Reserve Game Ranger program must meet AZPOST requirements. |
SERVICE REQUIREMENTS
 | A
minimum of eight hours of service a month is required to maintain volunteer
status. |
VOLUNTEER SERVICES
 | Active
Volunteers, who wear their volunteer card, may shoot on the Archery Ranges
and at the Main Range. Active Volunteers who are also Reserved Range Use
Shooters may shoot at the Main Range, Archery Range or only on the range
they are classified for. In appreciation for volunteer services, and in
accordance with Facility Procedures, the Facility waives their daily
shooting fee as long as active status is maintained. |
HOW TO APPLY
 | Complete
an application for the volunteer program you are interested in, and turn it
into the Facility Office. Our Host Program has a restricted number of Host
positions available. Priorities go to Hosts who are already in the program.
New Hosts are selected based on their ability to meet Facility requirements
and their availability. There is a waiting list for Host positions. |
