Friends
and Fellow Shooters,
This
is just a short note to let you know that I turned in my retirement papers
today. After 30.5 years of service with the Arizona Game and Fish
Department, it’s time to submit my resignation and move on. My
last day of employment will be
January 14, 2005
.
I
am healing well from my surgery and anxious to take on some new
challenges. I also want to thank all of you for your kind words, thoughts,
prayers, visits, and cards you sent my way.
I
have been hired by the Clark County Department of Parks and Community
Services in
Las Vegas
Nevada
as the Project Manager for the new
Clark
County
Sport
Shooting
Park
. Through legislation, Clark County has acquired 2,880 acres of land
(3 miles wide, 1.5 miles deep) at the base of Sheep Mountain (north of Las
Vegas) for the purposes of building a quality recreational shooting
complex (it will also be the largest public shooting complex in the
country), and will be a comprehensive world class facility. We are
currently in the pre-engineering phase. This is an exciting and
ambitious project, and I am looking forward to lending my services to the
Department and to the citizens of
Clark
County
in building, staffing and operating this quality sport shooting park. The
“lessons learned” at BASF, and many ideas from shooters have been
incorporated into its master site plan.
If
you have the fortune to attend the 2005 Shot Show in
Las Vegas
, we will be in booth # 7068, so please stop by and visit.
My
major regret is leaving behind so many friends. The Ben Avery Shooting
Facility was a fantastic place to work, and its patrons and personnel are
some of best people that I have ever had the fortune to work and associate
with. You will be missed but not forgotten. Perhaps, in the near future,
you can bring your guns to
Las Vegas
and shoot with me again. If you’re in town, give me a call, the
coffee pot will always be on.
In
addition to the above news, I need your help. The nominating committee of
the National Rifle Association has nominated me to the Board of Directors.
My “bio” that will be appearing in the January or February issues of
the NRA magazines. If you are an NRA member, I would appreciate your vote.
It would be my pleasure and privilege to represent you and your interests
at NRA.
Todd Rathner
of
Tucson
is also on the Ballot. I sincerely recommend him for your vote.
I’d
also appreciate it if you “email forward” this message to other
shooters who are on your mailing list.
Thank
all of you for your support and friendship, and keep your powder dry!!
Don
Turner
