Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit

TO QUALIFY for a CCW permit…

You must be:

A resident of Arizona or a U.S. Citizen

21 years of age or older

Not under indictment

Not convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence    

Not suffering from mental illness & not adjudicated mentally incompetent or committed to a mental institution

Not unlawfully present in U.S.

And you must have:

Completed a DPS approved firearms safety training program or be an honorably retired federal, state or local peace officer with a minimum of ten years of service

Completed a DPS application form with fingerprints and have paid the DPS fee (currently $50)

After completion of a CCW permit class…

You will:

Know the legal justification & responsibility for using deadly physical force

Know the legal requirements and obligations for carrying a concealed weapon

Know the limits on where a concealed weapon can be carried

Know the penalties for domestic violence convictions

Be aware of the Federal Gun-Free School Zone Law

Be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of appropriate statutes in judgmental use of force situations

Be able to list the four basic rules of safe gun handling

Be aware of the need to safeguard firearms outside the home

Complete a written test with a score of at least 70%

Qualify with a handgun

The Ben Avery Shooting Facility is host to numerous firearms and education classes taught by some of the finest firearms instructors the State of Arizona has to offer.  The Facility has classes for the beginner to the most veteran shooter.

Requires a 16 hour course of instruction, approved by the Department of Public Safety (DPS provided by an approved CCW instructor - see inside for a listing of instructors) which includes:

Legal issues relating to the use of deadly force

Firearms Care  and Maintenance

Mental conditioning for the use of deadly force

Safe handling and storage of firearms

marksmanship

judgmental shooting

First Steps Training Program

Ben Avery 4-H Club 
A free junior shooting program (juniors 9 to 19 years of age) held every Thursday from 6 to 9 pm at the Smallbore Range.
