Plans & Reports

The Ben Avery Clay Target Center is operated as part of the larger Ben Avery Shooting Facility.

Ben Avery Clay Target Center has been serving shooters since 1964.  In the fall of 1996 the facility was leased by L. B. Chief, Inc. and was completely remodeled.  The facility has state of the art equipment along with a friendly and knowledgeable staff.

This club hosts some of the largest shoots in the Western United States.  Ben Avery Clay Target Center offers a variety of games for the shot gun enthusiasts.  Not only does the Club have the traditional games of Trap and Skeet, the facility also offers the new games of the shotgun sports of Sporting Clays and 5-Stand.

The Clay Target Center may be accessed through the West Entrance of the Ben Avery Shooting Facility.

 SKEET

Skeet shooting dates back to the 1920's.  It was created to offer the sportsman shooter something to sharpen their skills during the off-season.  The field will move the shooters in a semicircle presenting them with a combination of twenty-five high and low targets.  It is a great game for both an individual or a group of five.

TRAP

Trap shooting is designed to simulate the flushing game bird.  The field lay out provides the shooter with twenty-five flushing targets creating an exciting challenge from five different shooting stations.

5-STAND

This game is presented on a field of five shooting stations lined up ten to fifteen feet apart, with five to eight target launchers.  Each station receives a combination of five targets totaling twenty-five targets.  These targets can be thrown as a single or two at one time.  5-Stand is an exciting challenge for the beginner to the more advanced sportsman.

SPORTING CLAYS

Sporting Clays has taken not only the sportsman, but the corporate world by storm.  It is a change from the game of golf, and yet still provides a wonderful outdoor team building experience.

In the past year, Sporting Clays has reportabley seen from two hundred fifty thousand to five hundred thousand sportsmen trying this fascinating new game.  Sporting Clays has been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, and Cosmopolitan Magazine.   Sporting Clays takes on the same style layout as a golf course except the greens are targets.  The targets are presented in all different directions and sizes to simulate all types of game birds.  Most courses have between ten and twelve stations ranging from one half to shortly under a one mile path.  These courses are usually either fifty or a one hundred target layout depending upon the shooters' desires.

The Ben Avery Sporting Clay course is laid out with shooting stations for both the beginner to the advanced.  Its granite pathway will take you for an easy stroll through the Sonoran Desert landscape on an unforgettable experience.

JUNIOR SHOOTERS

The Ben Avery Clay Target Center is very proud to introduce its newest shooter incentive program.  This one is designed and geared to help the junior of this sport.  The first Thursday of every month is designated junior night.  On this night anyone from the age of 10 through age 17 will be allowed to shoot at a discounted rate.  Both on the targets as well as their ammunition.  The Clay Target Center will also have knowledgeable staff present on the field to offer assistance.  This is a great way to spend an evening with your family so come on out and have a good time.
